All work and no play at the desk make the desk a dull place to stay! Keeping yourself fit at your desk may sound a little quirky, but a 30 minute cardio routine for five days in a week can reverse all those health risks associated with a sedentary life-style.

Exercises at your desk or Desk Exercises may not give you those muscular shoulders or a six pack abdomen but would sure re-energise you in more than one way and put you on the track to a healthier and happier life. Some easy ways to get your Cardio done at the desk are: To do a fast-paced toe tapping on floor, avoiding the elevator and taking the stairs if you have just a few floors to climb, or doing a slow jog in your place or walking around from one cubicle to another. For the legs that are tired from sitting, Lean against the wall and slide back down till your thighs are parallel to the ground, hold for 30 seconds to strengthen the legs and thighs. Long hours of sitting are linked to diabetes, obesity and heart diseases. Trying to conduct meetings standing, is one effective way to reduce your sitting time at the desk.
Your arms and shoulders need exercise too. Use the Namaste pose and press your arms towards your chest. Give a handshake to yourself and pull both your hands as if you are trying to break-away from the handshake. Throw those punches in the air or practice shadow boxing to let out frustrations.
Your neck and back can also be exercised by doing the shoulder shrug or pushing your head backward and resisting the motion with your hands behind your head. Swivel your chair with your legs above the floor or hold your desk with both your hands and move forward and backward while seated in your chair. Taking a deep breath and holding it for 30 seconds is a sure way to tighten those abdominal muscles.

While the human body is designed to stand and not sit, standing eradicates the formation of blood clots in the legs. A new study revealed that people who sat for more than six hours in a day are more likely to die early of cardio vascular diseases. Getting a standing desk too, gives you a lot of energy and keeps you alert. The Standing Qigong position or realizing the ‘Chi’ (The inner strength in you) through standing is sure way to energy and health.
