The gene that makes you glow!

So here it is! A gene that is responsible for giving that much coveted sheen and shine to the skin.

The research team of the US department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, (Berkeley lab) p63 is the gene present in the epidermis of our skin which is responsible for some unexpected skin abnormalities. As they say, mutations in this gene can result in various abnormalities in the upper layer of the skin like cracking, bleeding and other infections. The p63 is a protein which is the master regulator for the epidermal layer of the skin. However, researchers are yet to discover how this gene actually functions. The scientist, Terumi Kohwi-Shigematsu of Berkeley Lab’s Life Sciences Division, stated “Our collaboration on skin development with Botchkarev’s lab, which made the major contribution to this study, and our other colleagues was exciting because we learned both a new key player and a novel strategy that cells use to make skin: the master regulator p63 uses Satb1’s skills to do much of its work”

While Science has been ever evolving to give us more insights about our skin and the genes and proteins that control and care for it, Here’s how you can take care of your skin

PROTECTION FROM THE SUN

This is one of the most initiative steps you need to take, if you want to protect your skin. Exposure to the sun may not only result in tanning, but early age wrinkles as well. In order to have protection from the sun, wear protective clothing. This will protect you against ultra violet rays.

SMOKING IS BAD

Smoking is not only injurious to health but has a direct impact on skin as well. It can make you look older with early age wrinkles. This is because it narrows the blood vessels on the uppermost layer affecting the blood flow.

Stress is not only an effect which hampers your mental health, but uncontrolled stress may trigger various skin problems like acne. To have healthy skin and healthy mind, take various steps to control your stress.

GENTLE TREATMENT FOR SKIN

Still believe that rubbing and scrubbing will make your skin better? This is a myth!Give your skin gentle treatment, by limiting your time for bath and hot showers. This is because excessive cleansing and rubbing remove essential oils from your skin.
